Englischunterricht im Spannungsfeld von Referenzniveaus und Bildungsstandards

With regard to foreign language teaching, many things in the Swiss system of education are in a state of flux. This article provides insight into various projects in the field of English as a foreign language. The introduction of the levels of the European Framework of Reference, of primary school English and of educational standards – each of these innovations requires the development of new and/or the adaptation of existing educational tools such as syllabi, course books and tests or assessment packs. Furthermore, practicable methods for the implementation of these innovations in our classrooms are urgently needed. For foreign language teachers, this implies constant adaptation and in-service training in order to enable them to cope with these reforms. Good information, suitable instruments and materials can support them but their development is often hampered by the fact that too many things are still considered to be “work in progress”. By providing insight into the development of the English syllabus for primary school of the EDK-Ost and more particularly of the development of a new course book for secondary level I, this article discusses ways of integrating ongoing reforms into existing, current projects.

Im Bereich des Fremdsprachenunterrichts ist im Schweizer Bildungswesen vieles in Bewegung. Am Beispiel von Englisch bietet dieser Artikel Einblick in laufende Anpassungen und Entwicklungen. Die Einführung von europäischen Referenzniveaus, von Frühenglisch und von Bildungsstandards ruft jede für sich nicht nur nach der Entwicklung von neuen Werkzeugen, wie beispielsweise Lehrplänen, Lehrmitteln und Evaluationsformen, sondern erfordert auch eine praktikable Implementierung dieser Instrumente im Unterricht. Für die Lehrpersonen bedeutet dies eine ständige Auseinandersetzung mit teilweise tiefschürfenden Neuerungen, ein nicht abbrechender Informationsbedarf, wie auch gezielte Weiterbildung. Mit der Schaffung von geeigneten Materialien kann die Umsetzung dieser Reformen teilweise erleichtert werden. Aber auch hier ergeben sich Probleme, die meist mit der Tatsache zusammenhängen, dass so vieles erst im Entstehen ist. Anhand der Entwicklung des Englischlehrplans der EDK-Ost und vor allem durch Einblicke in die Entstehung eines Englischlehrmittels werden in diesem Beitrag Mittel und Wege aufgezeigt, um laufende Reformen in aktuelle Projekte zu integrieren.
