Task-based Language Learning and WebQuest

Riassunto

L’autore presenta l’uso del WebQuest quale introduzione all’approccio basato sui compiti (Task-based language Learning) nell’ambito della formazione dei docenti presso il Dipartimento della Formazione e dell’Apprendimento (DFA) di Locarno, descrivendo l’esperienza degli ultimi nove anni e discutendo pregi e svantaggi di questo tipo di percorso didattico. Ideare un WQ è diventato sempre più facile dal punto di vista tecnico, anche grazie alle competenze informatiche degli studenti, ormai tutti in grado di caricare filmati, immagini e foto su un sito web. Per valutare le qualità di un WQ come esempio dell’approccio basato su compiti si è fatto ricorso ad uno strumento basato sul modello Penta Pie di Westhoff, che contiene gli elementi chiave per un apprendimento efficace di una L2. Il WQ rimane uno strumento valido che dà la possibilità agli allievi di confrontarsi con situazioni realistiche e con un input linguistico autentico, anche se ci si può chiedere se il tempo richiesto dal suo sviluppo non sia sproporzionato al rendimento.

Abstract

The author discusses in which way WebQuest has been used in his teacher training institute in Locarno, Switzerland to introduce the task-based approach to his student teachers. He presents the experiences of the past nine years in which developing a WQ has become a lot easier due to technological developments and the ICT skills of the students who nowadays know how to upload videos, pictures and photos. To assess the quality of a WQ as an example of the TBL-approach, a WQ assessment tool based on Westhoff’s penta pie model was used. This model contains the key elements of effective L2 learning. WQ remains a valid tool to expose students to realistic language use situations and an input of authentic language, but one could raise the question if the time spent on developing a WQ in teacher education is not better spent on other aspects of TBL or language learning methodology.
